About University of Leicester (Online)
University of Leicester online study is the distance learning provision of the University of Leicester, a public research university founded in 1921 that received its Royal Charter in 1957. Leicester has more than 30 years' experience of distance learning, and over 25,000 people have graduated from its distance courses. Courses are taught by the same academic staff who teach on campus and lead to the same University of Leicester degrees. Study is mainly online through the Blackboard virtual learning environment, with no timetabled classes, so students fit study around work; essays, coursework and dissertations are submitted online, and any exams are taken at approved locations. Distance learners have free online access to the library catalogue, electronic journals, databases and more than 350,000 books, and can have books posted to them. They have the same access to tutors and student support as campus students, and the Students' Union has a Distance Learning Officer. The best-known programme is the Leicester MBA by distance learning, accredited by the Association of MBAs since 1998 and offered with a dual award from the Chartered Management Institute. Because study is online, students do not need a UK Student visa, and graduates can attend graduation ceremonies in Leicester.
