University of Essex International College

The University of Essex International College is a pathway college run by Kaplan International Pathways in partnership with the University of Essex. It is based on the university's Colchester Campus at Wivenhoe Park, about 3 km from Colchester city centre and under an hour from London by train, and students live and study on that campus from their first day. The college offers three degree preparation routes: a Foundation Certificate in Humanities, Science and Health or Social Sciences for first-year entry, an International Year One for direct entry to the second year, and a Pre-Master's for one-year master's degrees. International Year One covers Business, Computer Science, Economics, Law, Life Sciences, Politics and International Relations, and Psychology. Each route runs over 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 or 4 terms, depending on the student's English level, with starts grouped into autumn, spring and summer. Students who pass at the required level with good attendance are guaranteed a place on their chosen Essex degree; in 2025, 100% of students who passed at the required level received an unconditional offer. Those who miss their target can use Kaplan's University Placement Service. Progressing students who meet the requirements automatically receive an Essex scholarship of GBP 5,000 a year (Foundation and IY1) or GBP 6,500 (Pre-Master's).

As a pathway college it is not ranked itself; its partner, the University of Essex, is ranked joint #456 in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and joint #438 in QS 2027.

The college is on the University of Essex Colchester Campus at Wivenhoe Park, Colchester CO4 3SQ, a parkland campus with a lake about 3 km from the city centre. Students use university facilities such as the Albert Sloman Library, the Silberrad Student Centre and the Essex Sport Arena from day one.

Courses start in three grouped intakes: autumn (September to November), spring (January to April) and summer (May to August), with the start date depending on programme length. All routes lead into Essex degrees, which begin in October. Under the 2025-26 schedule, students aiming for an October 2027 degree start between February and July 2026, and longer routes start earlier.
