About D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University
D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKTU) was founded in 1958 as the Ust-Kamenogorsk Road Construction Institute and is located in Oskemen (Ust-Kamenogorsk), the main city of East Kazakhstan. It teaches engineering, IT, architecture and civil engineering, earth sciences, energy and business, and runs a Higher IT College and a Foundation Faculty for foreign students. The university works closely with regional industry, including Kazzinc and the Ulba Metallurgical Plant. Programmes are taught in Kazakh, Russian and, for a number of majors, English. Kazakhstan has no post-study work visa; graduates who want to stay need an employer-sponsored work permit.
